Auto Parts Plant Poised for Switch to Solar and Wind

Feb.13, London Free Press

Presstran and Formet, two automotive parts manufacturers under the Magna family, may diversify into solar panel and wind turbine production. The Presstran plant could produce 1.5 million solar panels per year, starting in June, if the deal finializes. Presstran’s owner, Magna, has been negotiating the deal for about 18 months.

At Formet, talks to bring production of wind turbines to the plant have been ongoing for about six months. That would be welcome news at the plant that has about 1,000 workers and more than 500 on layoff.  Presstran has about 400 workers stamping out automotive parts but about another 400 on layoff. The deal would see many of those recalled.
