Best Gifts are not Expensive

Best Gifts are not Expensive

The best gifts, the ones people remember and cherish, are the gifts you make yourself, for that someone special. The best things in life are free, and the best gifts don’t need to cost much more.

Want to express your love for that someone special, but don’t know what to give them? What about a box full of love. Find a small box, reuse rather than buying another box, and cover it in paper or just decorate it with crayons… you can even paint it one color or leave it “as is”. It’s what’s inside that counts. Take a few slips of paper and write on each one, something that makes your special person, “special”. It will mean even more, if you are specific. For example, rather than saying “I like the way you smile”, you may want to say ” I like the way you smile every morning when you just wake up”. Quality is better than quantity.. six or seven notes from the heart, will leave a lasting impression.

Other ideas for the “gift box” theme.

If it’s for a family member, you can make “Good For xxx” cards and put inside the box. For example: Good for one back rub, Good for a night off – no cooking & no choirs, Good for breakfast in bed.

Pictures – fill the box with pictures of special times had with your special someone and write something on the back of every picture. You can take this one a step further and make an album of memories, including pictures, notes, etc. in the book.

Thinking outside the box… baking. Not good in the kitchen, don’t worry. Where jams and jellies make tasty treats, they do require a bit more knowledge in the kitchen. There are still easy to make alternatives. Microwave peanut brittle fits that bill – very simple instructions, almost no-fail, only takes 10 minutes. Here’s a link to a list of 164 microwave peanut brittle recipes…. they are basically all the same….

Recipe in a Jar

Recipe in a Jar

Similar to “Gifts in a Box”, is “Recipe’s in a Jar”. Take your favorite cookie, brownie, or biscuit recipe and put all the “dry” ingredients into a seal-able glass jar. Write out the recipe on a card and attach to the jar with a ribbon.

Regardless of the gift you give, make it personal. Take the time to write a few words. Yes, your mom and dad know you love them, but it’s still nice to hear (and read) the words.
