BMW Introduces MINI-E EV on a Lease Program
BMW has announced the introduction of a completely Electric Vehicle (EV), the Mini-e. With regenerative braking, a range of 150-240km and top speed of 150 kph or 95 mph.
Unfortunately, only 500 Mini-e EVs will be available initially and only in Los Angeles, New York and New Jersey. The cars can only be leased, not purchased (sounds in the GM EV1) and will eventually be returned to BMW for analysis.
The power system is provided by AC Propulsion. These guys have been providing electrical drive systems since 1992.
The Mini-e can be recharged in 2.5 hours using a special high amperage charger (included in the monthly lease payments of $850) or in 8 hours is using a regular 110v outlet.
More info is available at the USA Mini website.
