Detroit Auto Show – No Change

Initial pre-show press releases from the “Big 3″ do not look positive. GM, Ford and Chrysler appear to be pushing their big, expensive, huge horsepower, vehicles again this year. While the “Dinosaur 3″ show off huge gas guzzlers that no one wants to purchase, like the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon with it’s 305 HP 3.6 Litre engine or the Ford Shelby GT500 with 510 HP and 5.4 Litre engine, Toyota has unveiled it’s new Prius, with “near-production-ready” plug-in concept. This new Prius improves it’s market-leading economy using it’s latest Hybrid Synergy Drive and comes to market this spring.

While the Detroit Auto Show does not represent the full market, it does provide a glimpse of what the ex-Big 3 have in store for the near term. Though we’ll wait till the show is over before commenting much more, initial views would indicate it’s “business as usual”, which in this case means no more business for the manufacturers of huge SUV’s and Pick-up Trucks.
