High oil prices is GOOD news
High oil prices - GOOD news
Yes, high oil prices will shrink some industries and their associated jobs, like airlines and auto manufactures. New alternative energy industries will grow and create new jobs.
So people travel less via airlines - means lower pollution and greenhouse gases.
Electricity from oil powered generating plants becomes expensive - replace them with large solar thermal electrical plants. These are already price competitive in many areas. And yes, steam can be stored to augment the lower night-time power requirements.
Electric plug-in vehicles become price competitive as the yearly fuel cost prices gas and diesel alternatives out of the market (less pollution and ghg again)!
We’ll have less disposable income as most necessities will cost more, but we’ll also frequent local shops and business more.
If the planet is to survive, high oil prices is an absolute requirement.
Stumble it!

No way. We’re not far enough in the technological race to start relying on alternative fuels and still keep this economy running. We need a combination of hybrid gas/electric vehicles to maximize output of the oil/gas we DO buy, and we need more refineries and domestic drilling to increase supply, therby bringing our dependence on FOREIGN oil(not oil in general) to an end, and put us in the pole position to really invest and explore alternative energy sources. Ethanol is NOT viable and never has been. We need our energy to be reliable, sustainable, and plentiful. At this juncture, oil and coal(especially diesel made from coal) is the most efficient way. We should’ve drilled into ANWR while Clinton was in office.
