Household Hazardous Waste – get with the program

Household Hazardous Waste
Our municipality held their “annual” household hazardous waste collection, this past weekend. The depots, setup around the city, should have been open for most of the day. Obviously, the general population has received the message, loud & clear – don’t through your excess paint, unused chemicals and dead batteries in the garbage! The city CLOSED the depots after just a couple of hours of operation, because they were full.
Did they see this coming, and have pickups scheduled throughout the day? No, they just closed the depots. Did they announce additional pickups for the future, maybe the following weekend? No, they said they’d try to have bigger depots for the next pickup, IN 12 MONTHS. For a municipal government that says they want to be on the forefront of environment issues – GET WITH THE PROGRAM.
