Random Acts of Green
- run your ceiling fans counter-clockwise to push air down. You’ll feel about 10% cooler with the breeze blowing over you.
- blow up your car tires – keep them properly inflated for better gas mileage. Check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
- take unused drugs back to the drug store. Do NOT put them in the toilet or down the drain.
- eat locally – buy food that’s in season and grown locally.
- bag it – take reusable bags with you – grocery shopping, to the hardwares store, everywhere.
- grow your own – a small garden in the backyard or a hanging garden on your balcony – makes for delicious, fresh herbs and veggies.
- plant local grass seed in your lawn – local grasses have adapted to your normal water levels, weeds and pests and will need less work to maintain.
- plant flowers that will attract helpful insects – ladybugs, butterflies, etc.
- use a reusable lunch bag and reusable containers inside your lunch bag
- use power strips for your electronics and turn them off when not in use
- take a reusable water bottle with you - not a plastic water bottle
- plant a tree. Yes, trees really do deserve a hug! They remove carbon dioxide from the air, add oxygen, provide shade and habitat, buffer noise, prevent soil erosion and reduce heat islands in cities.
