RMC Scorpion – runs on water – NOT
Ronn Motor Company (RMC) debuts the RMC Scorpionthis past weekend at the SEMA Show. The most notable feature is Ronn Motor Company’s hydrogen system, which makes this supercar amazingly fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. According to company President and founder Ronn Maxwell, the Hydrogen Fuel Injection (HFI) system provides hydrogen on demand, which is injected directly into the engine. This approach is said to increase fuel mileage between 20–40 percent and reduce CO2 emissions to nearly zero. The hydrogen is produced through electrolysis of water using the power generated from the vehicle’s electrical system. A small amount of hydrogen is added to the vehicle’s intake air/fuel mixture, allowing the engine to operate with less fossil fuel.
Editor’s Note: while we all would love to own a car that runs on water, the RMC Scorpion is NOT one. This vehicle, costing $175,000, is made from lightweight carbon fibers and runs on gasoline. While it may get reasonable fuel mileage for such a large motor, we feel this is a result of weight and design, not hydrogen input. It will be interesting to see what mileage improvements are realized by the aftermarket hydrogen system that will me marketed in the new year. Time will tell.
