Single-Use Plastic Bags for Recycling
Single-Use Plastic Bags for Recycling
What’s wrong with this picture?! Never willing to give up, the plastic bag industry is trying to convince you to replace your blue box, with a single-use “blue” colored bag!
Rather than using your blue boxes over and over again for years to come, they think you should purchase their plastic bags for one time use. Next week you’ll need to purchase some more bags…and the week after….
For cities that now accept blue bags, their usage rates remain the same as for cities using blue boxes. If using blue plastic bags would increase the total material recycled, maybe it would be worthwhile. But studies have not shown this to be the case.
I agree that seeing paper and plastic spread across the neighbourhood on a windy day is not nice. I don’t believe single use plastic bags is the answer however. Can we not add a lid to the blue box, same as we have on our reusable garbage pails?
