Tips to Greener Personal Care & Clothing
-
Go fragrance free. Don’t buy perfumes with the words “fragrance” or parfum” which indicate the presence of phthalates. Items scented with essential oils are fine.
-
Wash your clothing in cold water and hang to dry.

Don’t buy clothes that require dry cleaning. Hand wash dedicates.
-
Purchase clothes with recycled content.
-
Choose quality. It lasts longer and cost less in the long run.
-
Items made from hemp and bamboo have the smallest footprint, even if they aren’t grown organically as they require less fertilizer, water and pesticides naturally.
-
Donate your unwanted clothing. Don’t be afraid to pick up a few second hand items yourself.
-
Read the labels! If you don’t recognize the ingredients consider another purchase.
-
Reduce the amount of personal care products. If you aren’t using something every week, maybe you can get by without it all together.
-
Stay away from gold, silver and diamond jewelry. Mining 2 ounces of gold can create 3 tons of waste, destroying both land and water. If you MUST have jewelry, consider antiques or estate jewelry.
-
Use natural colours - avoid bleached and dyed materials.
