One big tip that I thought is very inportant but left out was a programmable thermostat. By having a programmable thermostat you get a couple different ways that it helps. First, you get a much more accurate reading on the temperature in the house as well the temperature you are trying to keep the house. Second, you get to program the thermostat to come on and off in the day and night when you are not home or sleeping. There are normally four settings on the thermostat for morning ,day, evening, and night. This is good because you can set the thermostat to a higher temperature during the day when you are out. Then set the thermostat to a more comfortable temperature for when you come home. Then when you go to bed you can set the temp a little more up for sleeping. Thanks, great post as well.
