Typical Monthly Electricity Usage

Typical Monthly Electricity Usage

The following table shows the typical electricity usage, in kilowatt hours, for a home in Ontario. You will notice there are no numbers for heating, other than the cost to run a furnace fan, as the primary home heating source in Ontario is natural gas or fuel oil . As well, your air conditioning numbers could look very different if you live in a more southern climate.

Your biggest savings in electricity can be achieved through insulation, to reduce heating and cooling costs. Reducing hot water consumption can also result in a significant savings. Install low flow shower heads, wash clothes in cold water and install aerators on faucets. You can also reduce your water consumption by replacing older toilets with 6 litre, or dual flush units and use water barrels to water your lawn and garden, though these items won’t impact your electrical usage.  Use energy wisely.
