What is Your Best Energy Saving Tip

What is the Best Energy Saving Tip

We have presented several simple energy saving tips over the years. What item to you find, works the best for you? Some of my favorites include:

Use a clothesline – cost very little to install and nothing to use, once in place.

Use CFL or LED lights- these replacement light bulbs pay for themselves in months, not years, and just keep on saving you money.

Insulate, Seal Air Leeks - can cost a bit of money and maybe takes a bit more effort, but has a huge impact on the comfort of your home and your energy bills.

Low Flow Shower head- replace your shower head with a low flow model. Use aerators on taps.

Wash Clothes In Cold Water – most of the cost to wash clothes is in heating the water. Detergents today, will get your clothes clean in cold water.

What energy saving tip do you use most?

  1. I use freecycle.org for recyling and unwanted items and for requesting things I need.I also use all of the above tips plus I seal all outer wall electrical outlets with safety plugs,Power bars on all electronics,my fans for cooling the house are on thermostats so they don’t use Power when the temp is comfortable. Save clothing items no longer wearable ( donate gently used) buttons and zippers removed in lieu of paper towels, and cotton shopping bags. I buy in bulk to reduce packaging. CFL’s, cold water wash , Clothes line, I rent and recently discovered a collapisable which attaches to my deck for less than $20.00. and of course the 3 RRR’s.Also rechargable batteries.
For anyone on a tight budget( ie myself included) the money I receive from my recyleable returns and my utility savings , I put towards puchasing things like CFL’s rechargeable batteries, clothes line etc. A small solar unit for recharging my batteries to run my Cd player and 2 battery powered lamps is next on my list. After that who knows. The savings keep growing every month and my budget is thus expanding to afford bigger and better.
