You Make It – You Clean It Up
Toronto:October 28, 2009![]()
New waste diversion rules proposed by the Ontario government will put the cost of cleaning up products and packaging, onto the companies that make them.
Companies have long been riding on the coattails of the Blue Box recycling program. They have no incentive to design and manufacture “responsible” products and packaging. The Blue Box program, and thus the taxpayer, has been saddled with the high cost of diverting these wasteful practices from the country’s landfill sites.
Interested parties have until Jan 11, 2010 to make their comments known via the Environmental Registry website. Changes to the Waste Diversion Act will likely take place in the spring parliamentary session.
